Of all the island resorts in the Whitsundays region, Hamilton Island is the one that attracts the most visitors. Hamilton Island has the most intensely developed infrastructure and it also has the best attractions, activities and holiday facilities. Hamilton Island is one of the largest islands in the Whitsunday passage and is the easiest one of all to get to. It is more like a holiday town as it has its own postcode, school and shops and the roads are alive with hundreds of golf carts that the locals and the visitors use for transportation.

Hamilton Island was originally developed by Keith Williams back in the seventies and he built the Reef View Hotel and the Whitsunday holiday apartments. He was also responsible for the construction of the Hamilton Island boat harbour which is now the center of a huge marina and boat charter industry. Keith Williams also had the foresight to construct a jet airport which gives it its special advantage over the other islands in the vicinity. It makes Hamilton Island, by far the easiest to get to as regular flights arrive and depart from the airport for Cairns, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne every day.

After a series of financial upheavals, Kieth Williams was forced to sell Hamilton Island and it was purchased by the Oatley family of Rosemount Wines fame. The Oatley’s had continued the development of the island and during their ownership new facilities and resorts have been added. Some of the best luxury accommodation in the world can now be found on Hamilton Island. Qualia resort has been built on the northern end of the island and the area beside the marina is now home to the spectacular new Hamilton Island Yacht Club. A number of new luxury villas have also been built beside the yacht club. On Nearby Dent Island, the Oatleys have constructed one of the most spectacular golf courses anywhere in the world. It is services by a regular ferry ride from the marina which only takes a few minutes. As this golf course develops over time, it is bound to become one of the icons of the sport around the world.

Hamilton Island is a favorite spot for a special wedding with a beautiful chapel, set on the hilltop and a number of different function rooms and locations for that perfect reception. Conferences are also popular as there is a lot of accommodation on the island and there is plenty of other things to entertain the delegates and their partners during the conference.

As a holiday destination, Hamilton Island lacks for nothing so come and visit and have a fantastic time.
